Leaked Filming Location Speculation

A video of the alleyway used in the Backrooms filming last weekend has been posted by TikTok user nina.pavlovic4.

She had previously posted the footage of the filming taking place a street over from her house. The video has gained over 3.3 million views, over 7000 likes and over 3000 comments on TikTok alone, while it has also been posted to other social media sites.

She kindly posted the current footage after a user had requested to see the street. The alleyway that was blocked off for an overnight filming session and (as the residents were told) included a chase scene had a very liminal feel ― with the houses and garages looking similar in appearance.

If you look at the houses in this video and combine them with the view taken in the original video (shows more of the uniform pointy roofs), we can gain a better picture of why this area was chosen. This style of architecture not only is present in Kane’s Backrooms episode “Pitfalls”, but is also a often represented in Dreamcore (an aesthetic that also uses liminal spaces along with imagery that is unrealistic or dream-like in nature), as well as being a feature of Level 94 ― “Motion” in the Extended Lore (Wikidot version) of The Backrooms.

When the location footage first surfaced over the weekend, people were already speculating whether it would be same location as the Pitfalls episode ― an area bathed in a red tinge and with several of these uniform houses. And although at this point all we can do is speculate, there is a lot pointing to it. In the episode, Async researcher Marvin E Leigh encounters the Lifeform inside one of the houses. After noticing it, he runs and it gives chase through the area before he is able to escape with the help of his colleagues. Could there possibly be a similar chase scene taking plate here? An extended area? Or a whole new area with these kinds of houses.

Initial Update

A video of The Backrooms filming was posted by a Vancouver resident to TikTok. The 7 second video appears to be taken a block over and shows a row of identical looking houses, overhead lighting and a blue screen also can be spotted.

The user also posted a copy of the letter that residents were given back on June 20th advising that filming would be taking place on Friday 18th at 10:00pm to Saturday 19th at 6am and that one of the lane ways will be blocked off.

The letter also references a “Detailed Filming Notice” which would contain all plans and confirmed information however a copy of this wasn’t posted. However the poster of the video did say that they were filming a chase scene so this detail likely came from the filming notice as it is not mentioned in the posted letter.

Users online are speculating whether this scene will take place in the real world or in the Backrooms (or The Facility as it is known as in the YouTube series). With the identical looking houses giving off a very liminal look, it looks very much like it would be taking place in the Backrooms.

Backrooms Movie Updates on X/Twitter also speculated that they looked like the houses in the episode “Pitfalls” and that the use of a blue screen may be further evidence of it being set in the Backrooms area as additional elements may need to be added in post-production, while a scene in the real world wouldn’t need such.
