Kane Pixels Hits 3 Million Subscribers

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to Backrooms movie director Kane Parsons on reaching 3 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. Very well deserved, especially in the lead up to his first feature film.

Kane has come a long way since his channel began in 2015 (almost 11 years to the day as the channel was started on April 14). Although is early videos on the channel are no longer publicly viewable, he started his channel posting Minecraft and meme videos. The first video on the channel today is a fun little video that Kane uploaded when he was only 12 years old called “Sandwich“. While other videos such as “It’s Nicer Here” and a series of numbered shorts called “Project 209” give us a glimpse into his film-making potential at an early age. His channel started to gain some momentum in 2021 when he created a series of videos based on the anime Attack on Titan.

But of course it was in 2022 that Kane really made a name for himself with “The Backrooms (Found Footage)“. This viral video would not only be the beginning of Kane’s Backrooms series, but also would lead to him landing a deal with A24 to direct his first feature film. He also started two new original series in “The Oldest View” and “People Still Live Here” which both not only have the liminal space aesthetic, but also are both excellent original ideas that are extremely well executed.

In an interview with Wendigoon in 2022, Kane mentioned that he had created over 400 videos – some of these had been uploaded but have since been made private, while others had never been posted online – instead being entered into local film festivals or shown via other non-internet means. We wonder if he will ever release any of these other films as it would be interesting to get a further glimpse into his early work.
