In Brazil, the full title of Backrooms is “Backrooms: Um Nāo-Lugar” which roughly translates to “Backrooms: A Non-place”. It is usual for some countries to add a sub-title to a movie.
In this country their distributor goes above and beyond to promote Backrooms more than any other. We take a look at just some of the promotions that Brazilian distributor Imagem Filmes have been doing.
Train Advertising
This has to be the most impressive advertising we have seen worldwide for the movie. An entire train in São Paulo is has been wrapped in Backrooms advertising. Not just a carriage, but an entire train.
Backrooms Display
Located inside Shopping Eldorado, San Paulo and UCI New York City Center, Rio de Janeiro, these real life displays utilize mirrors to make it seem like they go on forever. These are awesome photo opportunities for fans of the film, but also a great promotion to peak the interest of those not familiar with the Backrooms and who are visiting these shopping centers.
Train Station Advertising
Newer underground railway stations in major cities often have a glass enclosure to prevent people from getting onto the tracks. When a train stops, it lines up with specifically placed doors. One such station has Backrooms advertising on the doors.
Lift Advertising
Double Backrooms advertising on the outside of a lift. Would you dare to enter a lift that might take you to the Backrooms.
Billboards
Various billboards promoting the film in Brazilian cities. And these are no small billboards either – the two shown here are several stories high.
Cinema Advertising
Although most countries by now have advertising in cinemas for Backrooms, this first started in Brazil in March with an animated poster of the chevron wallpaper. Further animated posters would be spotted as well as regular posters and even posters that appear to wrap the side of a wall, and even little cardboard triangles found on tables at a restaurant next to a cinema.
Continual Social Media
Since the end of April, Imagem Filmes posts countless images and original videos promoting the Backrooms every day. They are particularly active on X, frequently reposting posts by fans and they even follow our Twitter account. They actually post about the movie more than A24 themselves!
Imagem Filmes are truly the kind of distributor that goes above and beyond when it comes to promoting Backrooms.
More distributors around the world need to follow their lead as some countries have been left behind when it comes to advertising of Backrooms. On the other end of the scale there are actually some countries where not a single Backrooms poster has been seen to promote the movie.
We thank you Imagem Filmes for your dedication to our favorite yellow-walled hallways outside of reality.
