Please note that most of the information on this page was posted by Kane himself either on his Discord server on Instagram. There are also a couple of “leaks” that occurred at the time of filming in 2025 by fans who lived/worked in areas where filming was taking place. We will not post any unauthorized movie footage, images, spoilers or information on this page prior to the release of the movie.

February 2025 – Driver’s License
Posted and subsequently deleted by Kane in his Discord server back in February of 2025, was a photo of what seems to be a British Columbia driver’s license. The film was shot in Vancouver, and based on a different leak from later on it seems that the story will take place within British Columbia as well. This could be the driver’s license of the main female lead played by Renate Reinsve, confirming her character will be named Charlotte Marie if this is the case.
2025 – The Wallpaper
Just before an official article teasing the film’s impending production was released, Kane posted (and deleted) the image of the wallpaper for the movie set. It’s not Chevron but it’s the same wallpaper used in most of Kane’s Backrooms episodes (most of his episodes don’t use the Chevron wallpaper). The photo actually shows the texture of the wallpaper which appears to be somewhat different to the wallpaper we see later on.
June 2025 – The Florescent Light
Another image from Kane on Discord, a super cool glance at the light being used for the film set. There was some speculation amongst fans however that the light wasn’t a full-sized florescent light, but instead a fake light that is used to illuminate paper. An eagle-eyed user on Reddit noticed that there is text that reads “Diffusion 10FT”. There is also can be seen a foldback clip in the upper right corner.
July 2025 – Mark Duplass on Set
This photo was posted by a user on Reddit who came into his office to find a movie being filmed outside his window. The previous day, there had been notices around the office advising that filming would be taking place. The user (most likely knowing the name Async from the production company name on the notices) put two and two together that it was indeed Backrooms (at the time, a production name of “Effigy” was being used). Filming had only just began and this photo showed actor Mark Duplass on set. At the time, Mark was not announced as an actor in the film.
July 2025 – Parking Lot Set
From the same person who posted the Mark Duplass photo, came an overall photo of the set with the crew at work. Several fans worked out that the number plates of the cars on set were all from the late 80s and came to the conclusion that the movie would be set around 1990. This was confirmed at the beginning of 2026 by Kane himself.. The number plates also appeared to be California plates, confirming a possibility that the movie would be set in a location similar to where Async are located..
July 2025 – Ivan’s Birthday
In celebration of the Backrooms character Ivan Beck’s birthday (July 16th), Kane posted an image on his Instagram story, which while initially believed to be a render is actually a real photo. Closer examination proved the image to be far too detailed to be made using premade assets and textures in Blender. It’s a very odd and bizarre set piece that will certainly be interesting to see in the film. Also, the clock is set to 4:20 for some reason.
July 2025 – Backrooms Neighborhood
The second set leak (and unfortunately last) to take place was when a user on TikTok posted a video of filming taking place in the street over. The video showed large floating lights illuminating houses that are similar to the style of houses in the Red Neighborhood from the episode “Pitfalls”. The user went on to post a flyer that was given to residents advising that the shoot would be taking place in the evening – the flyer also contained the production name of “Effigy” along with mention of “Async Pictures”. There was also an indication that a chase scene would be taking place during the filming as well. More in this article.
July 2026 – Empty Building
This image was posted to Kane’s Instagram story and was added to his Backrooms highlight, implying the area was likely being used to shoot the movie. The set lacks any more Backrooms-y details but this was likely before the crew came in and did the set dressing for the area. It does bear a resemblance to the attic area from “Found Footage 3”, though of course probably won’t be the same area in the actual movie, perhaps just similar.
August 2025 – Fan Studio Visit / Wallpaper
Member of Kane’s Discord server, Mari, was lucky enough to get to visit the set of the movie. They gave an insight into their impressions of what they saw and also showed a piece of the wallpaper they were allowed to take with them. The wallpaper appeared to be high-quality and had the same design as previously seen – that used predominately in the episodes of Kane’s Backrooms series. September 2025 – Chevron Wallpaper
Kane shared several images of a dog in the production office on his Discord. However one image in particular was of interest to fans as it provided the first ever look at the iconic Backrooms chevron wallpaper. Including the same chevrons as the original wallpaper, the version for the movie was more muted. After other photos containing the wallpaper were posted by Kane, featuring a different dog, he revealed that the wallpaper was also used to decorate the production offices, and was not just something used for the set. However, the original photo with the white dog is thought to actually be from the set as it lacks a baseboard. Kane has jokingly said in the past that the dog was listed on the call sheet as the “Effigy Mascot”, and he has supposedly eaten Kane’s French Fries.
September 2025 – Kane & Crew on Set
In early September, one member of the Backrooms crew shared a photo dump to her Instagram featuring images from various productions she was involved in, including Backrooms! Some exciting images were seen, including a birthday cake for Kane’s 20th birthday (which happened during production), and a photo of Kane and crew posing for a selfie on set! While you don’t get to see much of the actual set here, it’s still a very cool look behind the scenes.
February 2026 – Full Synopsis
A couple of days after the teaser trailer was released, Polish distributor Monolith Films posted a longer synopsis that gave information not previously released. Several social media profiles and content creators were issued DCMA takedown notices (including our Twitter account) by A24 leading to believe it was a legitimate synopsis. For these reasons, we are not re-posting it here until it is officially released, as we don’t want another notice!
