The first official promotion for Backrooms was on posted to A24’s social media pages on August 11. This image was captioned with “Everything Must Go”.
The image appeared to be a spectrogram, however in amongst the patterns, a distortion of a design which was very familiar to Backrooms fans was present – that of the famous chevron wallpaper.
A week later on August 18, another Backrooms image was posted to A24’s social media pages. This one was captioned with “2025”.
The image featured a clapboard no-clippng into the carpet with “BACKROOMS” on it and the numbers 11223190 along with the names “Kane Parsons” and “Jeremy Cox”. In the background was the famous chevron wallpaper.
No more official promotions would occur until 2026.

February 2026
The first teaser poster was posted to A24’s social media accounts with a caption of “> tomorrow”. The poster was simple – it consisted only of the chevron wallpaper. Text on the bottom which almost blended into the image gave a release date of May 29 2026. We now had an official release date!
The same day, the official website was launched at backrooms.mov along with the first official merchandise release – an adhesive poster of the teaser poster (allowing it to be stuck to a surface such as a wall in the way that wallpaper can be).
The following day, the official Backrooms teaser trailer was released.
The trailer showed a room which gradually changed as the trailer progressed, until it was no longer recognizable and appeared as part of the more familiar Backrooms setting of the yellow rooms of The Complex. We also hear a very haunting description of a place that Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character had visited.
I found something
I found a place
It’s massive in there
It just goes on and on and on
All these rooms
This place built them
Actually more like it remembers them
And the more times it remembers something

April 2026
Two new teaser posters were posted to A24’s social media pages – one with Renate Reinsve’s character Mary, and the other with Chiwatel Ejiofor’s character Clark.
The posters give off a very unsettling vibe with the actors showing looks of despair and helplessness.
The following day, the first theatrical trailer was released. Going for more than 2 minutes, the trailer gives us our first glimpse of the characters in the film which is shown to be a traditional cinematic film, but with some found footage elements.
The trailer shows several scenes from the movie, starting in a furniture store called “Cap’n Clarks Ottoman Empire”. Clark discovers a sliver of light in the wall of his basement and eventually we see him inside a place of yellow walls and a pile of furniture. This is the Backrooms. Further on in the trailer, we see him in a counseling session with Mary who does not appear to believe where he has been (he shows her a map). He is determined to show Mary that where has been is a real place so he enlists the help of his wife and a friend to help with obtaining footage. Eventually it appears as though Clarke is missing and Mary goes to the furniture store to look for him, only to discover the “null zone” (entrance) to the Backrooms herself.
